Thai boxing, or Muay Thai, is a national sport in Thailand. Therefore, every university or college will offer you either learning the basics or further your skills with experienced trainers. If you're good enough and willing, there will always be a chance to join a competition.
Muay Thai is the Thai boxing where arms and legs including knees are used to hit the opponent. In the old days, it was a dangerous sport. But in 1995, the World Muay Thai Council was formed to regulate this sport. The Muay Thai Institute was formed in 1997 to teach this sport and is accredited by Ministry of Education.
In Bangkok and surroundings there are many Muay Thai gyms or schools where students can learn this sport. Boys as young as 7 or 8 start training there.
There are two big Muay Thai fighting stadiums in Bangkok, Lumpini and Ratchadamnoen. Every weekend, there are fights at night. These are the places to see real Muay Thai fighting. If you come to Bangkok and go to see the big fight of Muay Thai you won’t forget it because the professional fighters will display all of their skills.
