The AIT mother campus is a self-sufficient residential campus plush with greenery, sports facilities – including a golf course, a conference center with accommodation and meeting rooms, a swimming pool in addition to the academic and research facilities – well equipped classrooms and laboratories. The Thammasat University with its teaching hospital and excellent sports facilities (those used in the Asian Games in 1998), and the Thailand Science Park are next to the AIT mother campus. A big Thai wholesale market for fruits and vegetables is across the Paholyothin Highway, and a number of department stores are within the range of 10 Km from the campus, noteworthy amongst them is the Future Park.
Through innovative academic offerings and as a trailblazer of education quality in Asia, AIT positions itself as one of the leading Asian institutions dedicated to the advance of engineering, advanced technologies, environment, natural resources planning, management and development, and business management and public administration. Internationality in AIT is reflected through its 2,300 students from 45+ countries; 130 faculty members from 20+ countries; about 500 research and support staff from 30+ countries; and most importantly international and regional experience of faculty members and students shared in the classroom and in research supervision. Accordingly, the institute provides opportunities to learn about other cultures and nationalities, and to build a worldwide network of professionals cutting across political and geographical boundaries. To date, it has produced 16,000+ graduates from 80 countries.
Key Figures
Established: 1959
Students international program:
All study programs at AIT are international programs. Students are enrolled in one field of study within one of the three schools of the institute. Details are available at: http://www.ait.asia/admissions/fieldofstudy.html.
At any given time, nationals of 40-50 countries comprise its 2,300-strong student body.
Lecturers:
Amongst 130 faculty members from 20+ countries, about 25% are from Thailand. In other words, 75% of the faculty members are non-Thai. Therefore, more courses are taught by non-Thai lecturers than by Thai lecturers. However, it should be noted here that all AIT Thai faculty members are as international as the non-Thai faculty members.
English Programs offered (accredited international programs):
For continuing education (professional courses), please look at AIT Extension. There are simply too many courses as we could show them all here.
Students at AIT have the options to study, research and conduct fieldwork with the academic/research partners around the world. Similarly, exchange students from the institute’s partner universities (http://www.ait.asia/Partners/academic-partners) are welcome to take courses or conduct research at AIT for a semester or two. Some of the exchange programs where the student spends at least one year at AIT and one year at a partner university lead to two degrees – one each from AIT and the partner university – known as the dual degree program.
On-campus Accommodation
The campus is a self-sufficient residential campus. Almost all students live on campus and benefit from the experience of international living. Only in some cases, when on-campus accommodation is not available due to large student intake, with special permission students may choose to live off-campus.Student accommodation comes in a wide range, and includes single and married housing. They are equipped with furniture, telephones, and hook-up to the Internet via the AIT Local Area Network.
e-Mail Contact: All students – Thai and non-Thai – are provided with individual email addresses during their study at AIT, and can access their email from within as well as outside the campus worldwide through the intranet and internet.
